Április 17-én felszólaltam az Alaptörvény negyedik módosításáról rendezett vitában. Felhívtam a figyelmet arra, hogy a magyar kormány azért vív szabadságharcot az Európai Unió ellen, mert nem osztja annak értékeit. Az Alaptörvény négy módosításával felépült a tekintélyuralmi rendszer. Az alkotmányos jogállam lebontása befejezettnek tekinthető.

Áprilisi felszólalásomat a kormány befolyása alá került hazai média teljes mértékben elhallgatta. A Fidesz minden politikusa folyamatosan baloldali támadásról beszél.

Miniszterelnök úr!

Kérem, vegye észre honnan beszélek. A jobboldalról. Én az európai és hazai jobboldalt képviselem. És új pártunkat, a Modern Magyarország Mozgalmat.

• Az európai konzervatívok a képviseleti demokrácia erősítésén munkálkodnak. Az Ön kormánya elfoglalta a jogállam összes intézményét, amely a fékek és egyensúlyok rendszerét képezi.
• A konzervatív politika mindig az alkotmányos jogállam híve. Ön kiüresítette az Alkotmánybíróság hatáskörét, eltörölte 23 évi állásfoglalásait, támadást indított az igazságszolgáltatás függetlensége ellen.
• A konzervatív politika kicsi és korlátozott államot szorgalmaz. Az Ön uralma alatt hatalmasra duzzadt az állam, ötszintű lett a közigazgatás, kiürültek a települési önkormányzatok.
• A konzervatív eszmeiség a tisztakezű és átlátható kormányzás híve. Az Ön pártja megzsarolja a vállalkozókat és a korrupciót kormánypolitika rangjára emelte.
• Az európai konzervatív politika a szabad piaci verseny pártján áll. Az Ön kormánya rombolja a piacot, torzítja a versenyt és monopóliumokat épít.
• Az európai konzervatívok az emberi méltóság hívei. Az Ön rendszere megbélyegzi a szegényeket, zaklatja a hajléktalanokat, félelemben tartja a közalkalmazottakat.
• A konzervatívok Európa-szerte az egyéni szabadság szószólói. Az Ön kormánya jogot szerzett arra, hogy belenézzen a polgárok magánéletébe.
• Az európai konzervatív felfogás modern: szabad polgárokból álló társadalmat tételez. Az Ön pártja lenézi a társadalmat, kiváltságokat oszt és a mindenható állam alattvalóit igyekszik beépíteni a nacionalista populizmus centrális erőterébe.

"A Tavares-jelentés kiválóan foglalja össze a demokrácia minden torzulását, amelyet egy rosszhiszeműen cselekvő tekintélyelvű kormányzat idézett elő. Tökéletes pontossággal írja le a jogállamiság erózióját Magyarországon.  Megállapításait megerősítette és visszhangozza a Velencei Bizottság és az Európa Tanács.  A magyar betegség fertőző lehet; ezért elengedhetetlen, hogy rámutassunk a hasonló problémákra az Unió más tagállamaiban is. Ahogyan a Financial Times írta tegnapi szerkesztőségi cikkében: "Szükség van rá, hogy átgondoljuk, hogyan tartatja be Európa az értékeit. A bizottságnak a jogkörök szélesebb skálájára van szüksége ahhoz, hogy szankciókat alkalmazhasson azok ellen az államok ellen, ahol a demokratikus reformok elakadnak, vagy fennáll annak a kockázata, hogy visszafordulna, úgy, mint Magyarországon" (FT, hétfő, 2013. július 1.) 

Kérem mindannyiukat, szavazzák meg a Tavares-jelentést."

Plenary Speech, Debate on the Tavares report

I made a speech in this chamber on the fourth amendment of the Hungarian Basic Law on April 17. I called your attention to the fact that the Hungarian government was engaged in a self-styled freedom fight against the EU, because it didn’t share its values. The four amendments of the Hungarian Basic Law have built out the structure of an authoritarian political system. The demolition of the rule of law can now be regarded as complete.

My April speech was completely ignored by the government-controlled domestic media in Hungary. Every Fidesz-member has been talking about an attack from the left.

Mr. Prime minister!

Please take a look where I am speaking from! From the right. I represent the best side of the European and Hungarian right wing, and our new party the Movement for a Modern Hungary.

• European conservatives work for the reinforcement of representative democracy. Your government has conquered all institutions which represent the system of checks and balances.
• Conservative politics has always been advocating for the rule of law. You have emptied out the competencies of the Hungarian Constitutional Court and made its decisions of the past 23 year null and void. You have started an attack against the independence of the judiciary system.
• Conservative politics urges for a small and limited state. Under your rule the state has grown bigger, public administration has become a five level system, local governments have lost their functions.
• The conservative ideal is a transparent and clean-handed government. Your party is blackmailing entrepreneurs, and has made corruption a government policy.
• European conservative politics is on the side of free market competition. Your government destroys the market, distorts competition and creates monopolies.
• European conservatives stand for human dignity. Your system is stigmatizing the poor, harasses the homeless, and intimidates public servants.
• Conservatives throughout Europe advocate for the freedom of the individual. Your government has gained the right to look into the private life of citizens.
• The European conservative approach is modern: it wants a society of free citizens. Your government despises society, privileges the few and tries to insert the subjects of the omnipotent state into the central power structure of nationalistic populism.

The Tavares report is an excellent summary of all the distortions in democracy deliberately made by an authoritarian government acting in bad faith. It is perfectly accurate in describing the process of erosion in the rule of law in Hungary. Its findings have been confirmed by the Venice Commission. The Hungarian disease is infectious; that is why it is indispensable to highlight similar problems in all members states of the EU. As the Financial Times put it in its editorial yesterday: „there is a need to reflect on how Europe enforces its values. The Commission needs a greater range of powers to sanction members when democratic reforms are stalled or at the risk of being reversed, as in Hungary.” (FT, Monday, July 1, 2013)
